My favourite app for podcasts, the control over automatic downloads and playlists is the most customized and hassle free I've found yet. I currently have 2 issues: importing my feeds after changing phones usually involves a couple of attempts (they are admittedly huge); I use a sleeptimer, but if I've used DoggCatcher that day it resumes play silently and plays the whole night and I lose my place in the playlist.
I've been using this app since my first Android phone over a decade ago and I loved it. Unfortunately it seems to be abandonware at this point, and it doesn't play nice with newer versions of Android (weird glitches, doesn't work with the lock screen controls). I have switched to Podcast Republic because it has all the features of this app plus a few more that I've always wanted. 3 stars b/c if you've got an older phone, I still think it's pretty good.
I've been using DoggCatcher for about a decade now. Its a little complicated at first but once I understood the buttons, it has worked without any flaws. However, in the last few weeks, it has deleted all of my downloads before I get to hear them. Also the autodownload doesn't work anymore. I have tried everything to fix it. I think its a lost cause. Changed to 1 star cause I just realized it has no update since 2018!!
