Genius Invokation TCG - Gameplay Guide

In the TCG Game mode of Genshin Impact, a match of card game consists of various different factors that players need to consider when challenging each stage in order to obtain victory. Having a good idea of these mechanics will help players to strengthen their gameplay and advance further in the gamemode.

Draw Phase And Elemental Dice Rolls

When starting a match, players will be granted 5 different action cards that can perform different actions based on their effects. At the start of the match, players can reroll the first 5 cards they draw one time, allowing them to hopefully get the cards they want and discard the useless ones. Afterward, at the start of each turn, players will draw 2 cards.

Elemental Dice will be granted each turn, which allow players to spend them to do different actions and skills of the characters based on the amount of the dice spent. There’s a total of 8 different elemental dice and players can only activate skills using the corresponding dice to the active card’s element. Players will be able to reroll all elemental dice once when obtaining them each round, therefore, players should aim to reroll the dice that don’t fit the active character’s element.

Active Characters and Switching

When starting a match, players will be able to pick one of the 3 characters on their side of the field as the active character to be the one to attack and activate skills against the enemy’s active character card.

It is important to note that the active character is the only card that can use their attacks and skills in order to damage the other enemy’s active card and is the one who will take damage when attacked. Therefore, the core strategy when playing the TCG is to switch to different active characters when the active cards have taken too much damage or when they are about to be dealt a massive blow of damage by the enemy.

Switching between character cards will cost 1 elemental dice each and will end the turn once the action is taken. However, special action cards can make it so that switching becomes a quick action or reduce the cost of switching to 0.

Action Cards

Action cards serve as quickplay effects that players can spend in order to activate special effects on the field, with different action cards doing different things such as instantly drawing 2 extra action cards, granting energies to characters, granting extra elemental dice.

Action cards can also be used to transmute 1 elemental dice to the corresponding element of the active character.

Various action cards can also be set on the field, up to 4 with various effects like granting extra dice, action cards and energies to different character cards.

Elemental Reactions

Like with the actual gameplay of Genshin Impact, Elements and Elemental Reactions play an important role in the gamemode of TCG, with various skills and attacks of characters inflicting different elemental mark on enemy’s cards and will trigger different elemental reactions when 2 marks of elements is inflicted together.

Different Elemental Reactions will yield different results once triggered, the list is as followed:

- Vaporize ( Hydro + Pyro): deal +2 damage instance for that attack.

- Melt (Cryo + Pyro): deal +2 damage instance for that attack.

- Overloaded (Pyro + Electro): deal +2 damage instance for that attack, when triggering against the active character card, switch the active character card to another character card.

- Superconduct (Cryo + Electro): Deal +1 damage instance for that attack. Deals 1 damage to all character cards of the enemy.

- Frozen (Cryo + Hydro): deal +1 damage instance for that attack. Inflict the active card with frozen (unable to use any skills or attacks).

- Swirl (Cryo/Hydro/Pyro/Electro + Anemo) : Deal 1 damage to all character cards that are not in the active position.

- Crystallize (Cryo/Hydro/Pyro/Electro + Geo): Deal +1 damage instance for the attack. Grants the active character card of the player 1 shield counter, reducing damage taken by 1.

- Burning (Pyro + Dendro): Deal +1 damage instance for the attack. Creates a burning field, inflicting 1 damage to the active character each turn for up to 3 turns.

- Bloom (Hydro + Dendro):  Deal +1 damage instance for the attack. Creates a dendro core, inflicting 3 damage to the active character after 2 turns.

- Quicken (Electro + Dendro): Deal +1 damage instance for the attack. Creates a catalyzed zone, amplifying the damage of the next dendro/electro attack instance.

Summons and Monsters

Certain characters and monster cards have the ability to create special fields and summons on the right side of the field, up to 4 at a time, with each summons and field having different abilities and attacks. Summons will only attack at the end of each turn once the players have declared the end of their turn.

Each attack from summons is treated as a different instance of damage and will attack the active character card of the opponent. Certain summons will also inflict elemental marks as long as their attacks are treated as elemental attacks, meaning they can proc elemental reactions by themselves, helping to disrupt the enemy’s play even at the end of the turn.

How to Best Play in Genius Invokation TCG

Choose Your Active Character Cards Wisely

Active character card is the only card in the game that players can use to deal damage or to use skills at all during the duration the card is on field, therefore, players should choose the character cards that can summon summons or that can set up elemental marks for elemental reactions to start out first, then switch between character cards to proc elemental reactions and/or to tank attacks.

Use Action Cards In Moderation

Action cards are an essential part of the TCG, therefore players should use them sparingly to help buff the character cards and to set up the field to help with different effects to get a better advantage against the enemy.

Always set up cards that can be set on the left side of the field, helping to buff the character cards as much as possible. Refrain from using action cards to transmute extra elemental dice as much as possible unless absolutely necessary.

Learn to Use Elemental Dice and Elemental Reactions

Elemental Dice is the main resource for the game within a turn, making it extremely crucial that players need to learn to manage this resource within the turn in order to deal the most amount of damage to the enemy’s character cards.

Elemental Reactions are the key to damage in the game, therefore, using elemental reactions and utilizing the skills of certain characters to trigger different reactions are extremely crucial if players want to win all battles that they fight in the TCG game mode.
