Fate/Grand Order Grail Front Gamemode Guide

The brand new game mode for Fate/Grand Order - Grail Front is an entire overhaul in terms of both mechanics and gameplay for Fate/Grand Order, offering fresh new and unique gameplay for players to enjoy in the past time and do something different from what the gameplay they have had to experienced for the better part of 6 years.

Grail Front Map

Unlike your typical game mode of Fate/Grand Order where everything is decided by a 3 on 3 turn based battles and story nodes consecutively, the grail front gamemode functions effectively as a massive game of chess board, where the servants from both side deploy special servants to fight each other or to capture the enemy’s master in order to achieve the win.

On the Map of this game mode, servants are placed in specific spots and have a set movement depending on their class and abilities each turn, meaning players will need to move the servants around like on a chess board in order to defeat the opponent’s servants and obtain the rewards.

Each player has a set number of Moves each turn, with each action taken by the servants and master like movements and attacks taking up a certain amount of Moves, limiting the amount of actions one can take each turn before ending the turn.

The goal is to defeat all the enemy’s servants OR depletes all 3 of the master’s HP bar in order to achieve victory in this mode.

Battle Mechanics

For Grail Fronts, the gameplay mechanics are extremely confusing and strange when compared to the usual gameplay of Fate Grand Order where you can form your own teams before entering.

When starting a Grail Front stage, players will be assigned a specific number of servant slots of specific classes and a cost limit. Players’ main job is to deploy their best servants of each of the classes of the corresponding servant slots within the cost limit.

The battle phase begins when a servant comes into contact with another servant and by spending 15 Moves points. Servants will be facing off against each other and each can attack 2 times per battle (if you initiate the battle) and 1 time per battle (for when your servants are attacked). The main way to end the battle is to run out of attacks per turn or by depleting 1 HP bar of the servant, which will immediately end that battle. Each servant has a total of 2 HP bars before they are taken out permanently.

If a servant initiates a battle against another servant while there’s other servants in the adjacent titles, they will enter a battle with all of the servants surrounding the target at the same time, allowing the servant to have a chance to wipe out 2 or 3 servants at the same time with a well timed Noble Phantasm.

Turn Orders and Skill Usages

When players have used up their Moves points, they can end their turns and the opponent will then make their move around the board. Each turn ended will advance the battle turn by 1, reducing the skill cooldown of servants and master’s mystic code skills by 1 for each turn ended.

The best way to take advantage of this is to end turns when you have a good board advantage to your opponent and prepare before entering a battle to use all the servants’ skills when you attack with your servants.

How to Best Clear Grail Fronts

To best obtain all the rewards, players will need to clear the grail front stages as fast as possible

Pick Low Cost But Tanky Servants

As the Cost for Grail Front Stages are extremely limited, it is wise idea to fill up all the servant slots available with servants in order to have the best winning chance as much as possible, therefore, for classes that players don’t have good servants on, using low cost but durable servants will do the trick, allowing them to be bait for enemy attacks or be tanks to protect the master’s HP bar and let the other good servants carry the entire team.

Pick Servants with Single Target Noble Phantasm

As most fights in these stages are 1 on 1 between different servants, having good servants with single target damage boosting abilities is a good idea, therefore, players should focus on using single target servants rather than servants for farming.

Utilize The Map

The main goal for this mode is to defeat all the opponent’s servants or to deplete the other master’s HP bar, meaning you need to take advantage of the map and different buffing titles on the map in order to gain an upper advantage against the enemy servants and corner the other Master in order to achieve victory.

Use Turn Mechanics Wisely

As mentioned, each time a turn passes or a battle ends, the cooldown for servant skills are reduced by 1 for each turn, therefore, players should take advantage of this mechanic to be best prepared before coming into a battle with other servants.

Special Rate Up Banner - Should You Roll

Together with the release of the grail front event Et tu,Brute , a brand new limited time banner for the Limited 5* servant - Lancer Romulus=Quintus is available for players to roll for.

Romulus=Quintus

Romulus=Quintus is a 5* Lancer servant with the ability to deal massive amounts of damage to all enemies with increasing battle damage and noble phantasm damage for each time he uses his noble phantasm.

Romulus=Quintus’ strong point comes from his ability to deal extra damage against enemies inflicted with the trait “Rome”, allowing him to deal extra critical and noble phantasm damage for each consecutive noble phantasm.

When paired with servants with the Rome traits or those with stronger damage against enemies with the Rome trait, Ro,a can becomes a massively powerful servant with the capability to clear the most difficult enemy waves in the game with ease.

Should You Roll

No, You shouldn’t. Romulus, while a powerful servant, is extremely difficult to manage and use effectively unless players have actual supporting servants for him, making him extremely hard to use in general for new players. Therefore, unless players really like him, you should not roll for him.
