Warning coloration, or aposematism, is the warning advertisement of animals to their potential prey. Animals that have poison, sting, toxins, or any other undesirable properties often have bright colors or contrasting colors that serve as a warning that they are not to be eaten. Their colors can be bright orange, red or yellow. Or they may have contrasting black and white colors. Aposematism is the opposite of camouflage. But it is beneficial to both parties.
