The art of qasidah was born at the same time as the birth of Islam.
For the first time, the qasidah was performed by the Ansar (helpers of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions from the Muhajirin during the migration journey from his homeland (Makkah) to Yathrib (Medina).
At that time some of the Ansar welcomed the arrival of the Prophet and sang hymns accompanied by tambourine music.
The hymns at that time were legendary to this day as classic songs and can still be enjoyed today.
Sholawat Qasidah is a form of prayer which is presented in qasidah format, namely Islamic poetry sung with a distinctive rhythm and song. Usually, sholawat qasidah is sung by Islamic music groups using traditional musical instruments such as tambourines, hadroh, drums, and others.
Sholawat qasidah contains various praises and prayers to the Prophet Muhammad SAW as well as teaching about Islamic morals and behavior. In addition, sholawat qasidah also has a very high beauty of language and literature, so it is often used as a means of honoring and glorifying the Prophet Muhammad as well as entertainment and conditioning.
Some examples of well-known qasidah prayers in Indonesia include Ya Asyiqol Musthofa, Sholatullahi Malahat Khusnul Khotimah, and Marhaban Ya Nurul Ain. Sholawat qasidah has also become an important part of Islamic culture in various countries in the world such as Morocco, Egypt, Turkey and Iran.
