There is already a Sunnah Quran, why do I have to do ijtihad? This kind of question is not just a book title, but also a somewhat misleading question for several reasons, including:
First, because the reverse logic becomes ambiguous, namely as if ijtihad is the absolute opposite of the Quran and Sunnah. In fact, the Quran Sunnah even orders ijtihad. At least there are restrictions on when ijtihad is used and when it only relies on the outer text of the Quran and Sunnah.
Second, because even though there is the Quran Sunnah, it still cannot be used right away. There is still a big role, namely how do we get legal conclusions that cannot be done automatically that simple. And the processing process is called ijtihad. So it is impossible for us to be guided by the Quran Sunnah without going through the process of ijtihad.
We ordinary people are used to simplifying the problem. If there is already one verse of the Al-Quran mentioning a problem, then we immediately draw legal conclusions without looking right and left. Like a toddler who innocently crosses the street, he just jumps in without any consideration. Of course it is very dangerous, let alone crossing the toll road.
As a simple example, does anyone know which verse in the Al-Quran commands us to pray Eid al-Adha? There are indeed orders for prayers in general, in fact there are many. But the Eid al-Adha prayer that we do every year, where is the verse?
People who are unable to carry out ijtihad, alias ordinary people like us, will usually say that in the Al-Quran there is no command to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer. In fact, the verse actually exists, but we don't know. The verse is a verse that we have often read and even memorized, namely:
And pray for your Lord and do nahr (QS. Al-Kautsar: 2)
For those who do not know their knowledge and only rely on the translation of the Koran, they may be confused, where is the sentence that commands the Eid al-Adha prayer in this verse? There are only general prayer orders.
