فرض رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- زكاة الفطر طهرة للصائم من اللغو والرفث وطعمة للمساكين من أداها قبل الصلاة فهى زكاة مقبولة ومن أداها بعد الصلاة فهى صدقة من الصدقات.
“The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- obliged zakat fitrah to purify a fasting person from jokes and vile words, and also to feed the poor. Whoever performs it before prayer then his zakat is accepted and whoever performs it after prayer is considered only as alms among various alms. " (Narrated by Abu Daud, no. 1609 and Ibn Majah, no. 1827. Al-Hafizh Abu Thahir said that this hadith sanad is hasan).
