There are three systematics that need to be discussed here. First, the systematics of Imam Shafi'i himself. Second, the systematics of his students, namely Ar Rabi ibn Sulaiman Al Muradi. And third, Sirajuddin Al Bulqini's systematics, one of the eighth-century Shafi'iyyah scholars
1. Intention to Become Makmum
Rasulullah Shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam once said that all deeds depend on their intentions. This hadith is the basis for many forms of worship in Islam. Both related to sincerity, as well as related to the presence or absence of intention in carrying out the worship.
Included in this congregational prayer service, so that a person is said to be valid in carrying out the congregation in his prayer, then he must intend to become a makmum if he is a makmum. Unlike the priest who is not required to have the intention to become an Imam, a congregation must intend to become a congregation.
In Minhaj At Talibin Imam An Nawawi said:
“Article: the condition for being in a congregation is intending to follow or intend to be in congregation which is carried out in tandem with takbir (ihram). Friday prayers also apply the same thing as other prayers in a valid view. If there is a congregation who deliberately abandons this intention even though he is following the movements of the imam, his prayer in a valid view will still be considered null and void.”
2. Makmum has different intentions with the Imam
This problem of different intentions between the congregation and the priest often occurs in the case of someone who is praying the sunnah prayer, suddenly someone taps him on the shoulder who wants to get a reward in congregation in the fard prayer.
Apart from these cases, in fact there are many cases that can be used as examples. For example, someone who prays on time makes a sound to someone who is praying qadha.
Someone who is praying Fajr (qadha) prays with someone who is praying Isya, which of course has more cycles. And various other examples.
