Hi-Fi Rush is a musical activity game in which the hero, his opponent and parts of the weather move to the beat. Chasing, dodging, and denying rhythms is unnecessary, as activities automatically sync with the music, but by properly timing button presses, players are compensated with higher damage output and more combo options.

The game takes place in lots of straightforward stages, dealing with different divisions of the main enemy organization. Each division relies on a particular melodic style, and Chai participates in the supervisor's battle to the end of the stage.

In addition to combat, the game includes several stage game components, as well as a series of upward moves to unlock new moves, abilities, and advantages, which can be purchased with in-game money found by investigating levels.
