Freckle is a training website (and app) for grades K–12 that covers standards-based skills and concepts in core subject areas. From the Freckle dashboard, teachers can create class rosters manually or import from other sources (such as Google Classroom) on Freckle. At Freckle Teachers will find a large amount of ready-to-assign content in the form of skill-targeted practice at Freckle, Freckle worksheets that can be printed or shared digitally, inquiry-based lessons at Freckle and adaptive assessment. In addition, at Freckle they will have access to video tutorials, a Freckle student dashboard, student progress monitoring tools and much more.
At Freckle Students log in with a class code; however, they must enter their name according to the class roster to access the class. After their first login on Freckle, they will be asked to complete an adaptive baseline assessment in either Math or ELA (or both, depending on what content the teacher has assigned) on the Freckle worksheet. This score adjusts based on student feedback and is used throughout other materials assigned by the teacher. Freckle's built-in resources offer support to students if they struggle with a concept, including concept explanation videos. There are also Freckle built-in tools like a scrubbing pad to help students figure out their answers. Students can access the tool using a tablet or from a web browser. All information is stored in Freckle's cloud, so kids can take turns using different Freckle devices. Individual Freckle logins make it easy for students who share devices on Freckle.
Teachers with free Freckle accounts are limited to a small amount of assignable content per week, and social studies content is only available with paid Freckle accounts. Many science lessons are also locked past Freckle's first lesson. Freckle account prices are not available on the website and are only provided via the quote request form. There are also many types of learning at Freckle such as freckle math, freckled poppy, freckled poppy boutique, and the freckle filter feature.
At first glance, Freckle appears to be meant for practice and reinforcement, but a closer look reveals valuable teaching resources and opportunities for discrimination and inquiry-based learning at Freckle. A simple click from the Freckle dashboard gives you access to a number of instructional materials, including videos and lessons on a variety of subjects. Students can complete teacher-assigned activities or practice skills independently, earning Freckle coins to spend on virtual items in the Piggy Store (although the dashboard is different for older students). Teachers can also customize Freckle worksheets and printable Freckle activities to meet certain standards.
Use students' math and ELA assessment results -- and any other data you've collected -- to help differentiate. Because you can choose a level for most materials, you can have all students work on the same content, but each at their level. The teacher dashboard also contains detailed information about each student, their progress, and areas of struggle for additional support, so you can assign work that fits each student's needs.
