And the author of the book is Muhammad bin Jarir bin Yazid bin Katheer bin Ghalib, known as Imam Abu Jaafar al-Tabari, commentator, historian and jurist, nicknamed the Imam of the commentators, born in Amal, the capital of Tabaristan, he traveled to Ray, Baghdad, Kufa and Basra, and went to Egypt and traveled to Fustat in the year 253 AH. He took on its scholars the sciences of Malik, al-Shafi’i and Ibn Wahb, and he returned and settled in Baghdad. He was presented with the judiciary, but he refused, and the grievances, but he refused. He has many classifications. Yaqut al-Hamawi says: “We found in his inheritance from his books more than eighty parts in his precise handwriting,” including: the differences between the scholars of the regions, It is the first book written by al-Tabari, and he used to say about it: “I have two books that a jurist cannot do without: Al-Difaq and Al-Latif.” He authored Jami’ al-Bayan fi Ta’wil al-Qur’an, known as Tafsir al-Tabari and the History of Nations and Kings, known as the History of al-Tabari.

Al-Tabari began in his book from the news of Adam until it ended with the news of his time. And the book is on the path of news and in sequence, and most of it is with chains of transmission, and al-Tabari did not stipulate that everything in it be proven, but rather took the principle of “whoever is attributed has transmitted.” As al-Tabari says in the introduction to the book:

“So if there is in this book of mine any news that we have mentioned about some of the past, which the reader would denounce, or the listener would despise, because he did not know its authenticity or meaning in reality, let it be known that it was not brought about by us, rather it came from some of its narrators. to us, and I only owed it in the way that it led to us.”
