Al-Mabsout is a book on jurisprudence on the Hanafi school of thought written by Imam Shams al-Amamah al-Sarkhasi (d.: 483 AH). Imam al-Sarkhasi dictated it to his students from his memory while he was imprisoned in a well (in a well) in Uzjand (Farghana). The reason for his imprisonment was a word advised by the Khaqan.

This book is considered a comprehensive encyclopedia of jurisprudence in comparative jurisprudence between the schools of thought of the two imams Abu Hanifa and Shafi’i, sometimes adding to them the school of Imam Malik, in matters of contention between them, discussing and commenting on them, in addition to being one of the main books of Hanafi jurisprudence approved in the fatwa.

In it, the author absorbed all the chapters of jurisprudence in an easy and clear manner, and simplified the rulings, evidence and discussion with comparison with the rest of the schools, especially the Shafi’i school and the Maliki school, and he may mention the school of Imam Ahmad and Dhahiriya. He may favor a school other than the Hanafi school of thought in the matter, and support his opinion with evidence, and he may combine the evidences of the Hanafi school and others in a good manner that negates the contradiction between them.

This book is considered the most extensive printed book on Hanafi and comparative jurisprudence, and the Hanafi relied on it in jurisprudence and fatwa, until the scholar Najm al-Din al-Tarsusi said about him - as quoted by Ibn Abidin in his footnote (Rad al-Muhtar ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar): To him, he is not given a fatwa, nor is it relied upon except on him.”
