Classical Music Tagger Description
Open source and ad-free.
Newer versions are available via the address mentioned below.
Modifies metadata ("tags") in audio files (even simultaneously in multiple ones), especially for classical music with composer, work and movements. Runs either standalone or as a helper for Opus 1 Music Player. Also suitable as a supplement to Unpopular Music Player.
Edits all popular file types and supports the proprietary tags for "work" and "movement".
Optional simplified mode, where the proprietary tags are used either implicitly or not at all.
Runs either in classic (File) or in SAF mode. SAF is mandatory for writing to "external" SD cards and for accessing USB OTG memory or network shares. A basic audio player allows listening to music played e.g. from a USB memory stick.
Data loss is nearly impossible, because the original file is always backed up by renaming, and only a copy is written to. If something goes wrong, the changes can be easily reset.
Procedure (example):
- In Opus 1 Music Player, from version 1.53, add the files to be changed to the playlist.
- Select the "Change metadata..." menu item. The Tagger will be started.
- Select all files and open the editor input mask.
- Go to the composer field and enter "Lud": The program automatically suggests the name of the famous composer from Bonn.
- Save changes and return to the previous screen.
- Now select only the three movements of the first work and enter the work name in the editor.
- Save again and name the movements individually in the editor if necessary.
To do:
- Mp4-dash (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) files can be read, but not changed, because the tagger library does not reliably support this. In practice, however, these files are seldom.
The Classical Music Tagger ist "open source" and also available via F-Droid (https://f-droid.org/packages/de.kromke.andreas.musictagger/).
