Carlo Abarth founded the brand in Italy in 1949 to make racing and road cars. Abarth's logo, designed as a shield, uses race-reminiscent yellow and red colors together with the scorpion figure. As you can imagine, the brand takes its name from its founder.

Founder Carlo Abarth was working as Sports Director at Cisitalia, one of the time's most famous sports and racing brands, in 1947. In 1948, the crisis that the brand could not cope with caused Carlo to lose his job. In 1949, he decided to establish his brand, Abarth. The scorpion figure that makes up the brand's logo comes from the founder's astrological zodiac sign.

Abarth As of 1950, the brand left many races with a race car named 204 A, produced by itself and called 204 A. This company, which had successful races with its famous pilots, also made and sold accessories and performance parts for its competitors.

By 1971, Fiat bought Abarth. The brand under the group was positioned as the racing department of the Fiat group. Racing models such as the Fiat 124 Rally and 131 emerged as Fiat's racing cars after this positioning. Abarth's signature racing cars were also used in Lancia, another brand in the group.

In 2007, Abarth decided to re-establish the company independently within the Fiat Group. Currently, it continues to work with 100% control by Fiat Group.
