When you download Pointz, it looks like a typical mapping app. But when you ask it for directions, Pointz will suggest routes that follow more comfortable paths. These include protected bike lanes and low-traffic neighborhood streets, instead of more direct routes over busier roadways.
Riders are invited to rate the streets they are familiar with on a simple 5-point rating scale, ranging from angry face to smiley. Next, riders can provide more detail about their ratings, which influence the app’s future route recommendations. At this time, Pointz is available in the U.S. only.
