Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi’i al-Muttalibi al-Qurashi (150-204 AH / 767-820 CE) is the third of the four imams among Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama’ah, the owner of the Shafi’i school of Islamic jurisprudence, and the founder of the science of fundamentals of jurisprudence. He is also an imam in the science of interpretation and the science of hadith. A judge, he was known for justice and intelligence. In addition to religious sciences, Al-Shafi'i was an eloquent poet, a skilled archer, and a traveler. Al-Shafi’i was born in Gaza in the year 150 AH, and his mother moved him to Makkah when he was two years old. He memorized the Holy Qur’an when he was seven years old, and memorized the Muwatta’ when he was ten years old, then he began seeking knowledge in Makkah until he was permitted to issue fatwas when he was a boy under twenty years old. Al-Shafi’i immigrated to Medina to seek knowledge with Imam Malik bin Anas, then he traveled to Yemen and worked in it, then he traveled to Baghdad in the year 184 AH, so he sought knowledge in it with Judge Muhammad bin Al-Hassan Al-Shaibani, and he began studying the Hanafi school of thought, and thus gathered for him the jurisprudence of Hijaz (the school of thought). Maliki) and Iraqi jurisprudence (Hanafi school of thought). Al-Shafei returned to Mecca and resided there for almost nine years, and began to teach his lessons in the Great Mosque of Mecca, then traveled to Baghdad for the second time, and presented it in the year 195 AH, and he wrote the book Al-Risala, in which he laid the foundation for the science of the principles of jurisprudence, then he traveled to Egypt in the year 199 AH. In Egypt, Al-Shafi’i reclassified the book Al-Risala, which he wrote for the first time in Baghdad, and he also started publishing his new doctrine, arguing with his opponents, and teaching students of knowledge, until he died in Egypt in the year 204 AH.
